JEFFERSON - Gwendolyn Minish Johnson, 88, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2012.
She was born in Madison County, the daughter of the late David Lee and Eva O'Kelley Minish. Mrs. Johnson retired as a registered nurse, where she had worked at the Former BJC Medical Center in Commerce, and for the Dr. Joe Griffith medical practice in Commerce. She was a member of the Jefferson First United Methodist Church for over 46 years. Mrs. Johnson was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Jackson County Meals on Wheels, and the former president of the Minish Family Reunion. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Hillyer T. Johnson.
Survivors include a her son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Gloria Johnson, Adrian; daughter, Hilda Johnson Smith, Jefferson; son, Tommy and Alicia Johnson of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Tim Johnson, Jay Johnson, John Smith, Mathew Smith, Kelsey Smith, Wynn Smith, and Claire Johnson; great-grandchildren, Addison Smith, Gavin Smith and Aubrey Smith; sisters, Lessie Benton, Commerce, Hallie Fitzpatrick, Susie Davis, and Betty Brock, all of Danielsville; step-grandchildren, Cindy Connell, Milledgeville, Tracy Foreman, Marietta, and Troy Parish, Adrian.
A memorial service was held Sunday September 2, at the Jefferson First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chris Laskey officiating. Mrs. Johnson chose to donate her body to Emory for medical research.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson First United Methodist Church, 188 Martin St., Jefferson, GA 30549, or the American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Rd., Athens, GA.
