AMERICUS - Katherine Sheridan Turner, 91, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2012 after a brief illness at Magnolia Manor in Americus, where she had resided since March 2012.
She was born October 13, 1920 in Maysville, the daughter of the late Addis Carr Sheridan and John Waters Sheridan. She attended Maysville Elementary School, Maysville High School and Toccoa Falls Institute. She worked for the Atlanta Stove Works, Atlanta, and Agnes Scott College, Decatur. A lifelong Presbyterian, Mrs. Turner was a member of Commerce Presbyterian Church in Commerce, and was an accomplished pianist, avid gardener and reader.
She was married to John Bassett Turner of McDonough, for 58 years until his death on September 17, 2001.
Survivors include two daughters, Sheridan Turner Rushton (H. Nelson Rushton, III) of Albany, and Daune Turner Davis (James E. Davis) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla; grandchildren, Matthew Hampton Rushton (Casey Christy Rushton); H. Nelson “Bert” Rushton, IV and Katherine Carr Krestalude (Adam George Krestalude); great-grandchildren, Hampton Banks Rushton, Christopher West Rushton and Witton Coye Rushton.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 4 at 11 a.m. from the graveside of Sunrise Cemetery with the Rev. Monty Nelson officiating.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, is in charge of arrangements.
