ALTO - Jewell Jackson White, Sr., 76 passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2012.
Born in Banks County on January 13, 1936, he was a son of the late John J. and Myra Phillips White. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Rev. J.L. White and Buster White; and a grandson, Joseph White.
He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 20 years. He was the owner/operator of White Super Saver Foods in Atlanta for 21 years. He was also a United States Army veteran 1959-1963, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He enjoyed NASCAR, traveling, going to Braves baseball games and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo White, Banks, County; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Wanda White, Winder, and Jewell Jackson, Jr. and Brenda White of Lula; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Tony Madden, Lawrenceville; daughter, Barbara Redding, Lula; brother, Doyle White, Lula; sisters, Mae Smith, Ethleen Hooper and Joyce Shubert, all of Lula, Francine Westbrook, Baldwin, and Betty Jo Tiepkema, Oakwood; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 18, at Rock Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Gary Wilson and James Duncan officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with the Rev. Swayne Cochran officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, American Legion Post #84, Rabun County DAV Chapter #15 and Georgia National Guard Funeral Honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, August 17.
