CHESAPEAKE, VA - Sara Coile Brown passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, in Chesapeake, VA.
She was born on June 6, 1921, in Madison County, the daughter of the late Mel Mathews and Julia Yarborough Coile. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Garnett D. Brown; and a daughter, Elaine B. Marr.
Sara was a beautician and owned her own business for over 50 years. She was an active member of Hull Baptist Church, where for many years she enjoyed teaching the Ruth Sunday School Class and directing the annual Christmas pageant. Another activity that brought much pleasure into Sara's life was the Order of Eastern Star. She was a very involved member of the Salonia #227 Chapter in Athens and served as Worthy Matron, and in l967, was OES Grand Chaplain for the State of Georgia.
Sara was a wonderful person and truly loved her family, friends, and church, and she was beloved by her family and friends. She will certainly be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn B. Brookshire and her husband, James K. Brookshire, Jr.; a son-in-law, Mahlon L. Marr; three grandchildren, James K. Brookshire lll and wife Sandi, Denise B. Mitchell and husband Greg, and Jeffery L. Marr and wife Carrie; and five great-grand-children, Julia and Tyler Mitchell, Colby Brookshire, and Wren and Sam Marr.
A service of celebration of the life of Sara will be held at Hull Baptist Church in Hull at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 11, with the Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Ruth Sunday School Class members.
