COMMERCE - Dave Collins, 88, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2012.
He was born in Appling County, the son of the late Asa and Mae Davis Collins. He was retired from the Roper Pump Company and was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. Mr. Collins was a member of the Brockton Road Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Joyce Anthony Collins, Commerce; daughter, Deborah Herndon, Social Circle; grandchildren, Beverly (Gary) Lance, Commerce, David Murphy and Scotty Murphy, both of Pendergrass; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 24, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Revs. Jesse Mealor and Carl Mealor officiating. The burial will follow in the Braselton Church of God of Prophecy with grandson-in-law, Gary Lance, great-grandson, Zachary Lance, grandsons, David and Scott Murphy, nephew, Steve Collins, and a close friend Billy Hanners were honored as pallbearers. The visitation for Mr. Collins will be held on Saturday, June 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, is in charge of arrangements.

Thank you so much to all those who were there for us all during this very trying time. We loved our Pepaw so very much and hope that in time we'll be able to understand why he was taken from us. I know he's up there waitin' for us to come along with our fishing poles and getting ready for a fish fry. I love you, Pepaw. You were the greatest man I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.
