William “Bill” Compton, 80, of Comer, died September 6, 2008, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born in Madison County, he was the son of the late Norman and Hassie Mae Wood Compton. He retired from Georgia Power after 30 years of service, where he was a lineman. He was a member of Meadow Baptist Church and was an avid gardener. He was preceded in death by sisters, Sara Roberts, Helen Carrington; and a brother Hal Compton.
Survivors include his wife, India Dean Compton; son, Wes (Pam) Dean, Cuming; daughters, Janice (Larry) Partain, Wanda Ray (Steve) Thompson of Eastanollee; brother, Paul Compton, Athens; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services where held September 9, at Meadow Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Sarna and Dalton Carrington officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbeares were Blake Yeargin, Brandon Yeargin, Ethan Dean, Keaton Thompson, Jeff Brown and Mark Dean.
