Ret. Lt. W. L. McDonald, 85, of Clarksville, formerly of Winder, died Saturday, September 6, 2008, at Habersham County Medical Center, following an extended illness.
Born in Fulton County on September 27, 1922, he was the son of the late William Marvin and Annie Reynolds McDonald. He was a retired lieutenant from the City of Atlanta Fire Department with 25 years of dedicated service and was a member and Past Master of the Auburn Masonic Lodge #240. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army during World War II in the Rainbow Division and was a lifelong Baptist. Mr. McDonald was preceded in death by a son, Joseph McDonald.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Jessica McDonald, Clarkesville; daughter, Carol McManus, Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Gary Henderson, Marietta; brother, Lloyd McDonald, Nashville, Tenn.; sister, Barbara Smith, Daytona Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Lt. Col. John McManus MD, Anne Marie Wingate, Erin Mundy and Mary Beth Snelson; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Monday, September 8, at Walnut Fork Baptist Church, in Hoschton, with full military honors and Masonic rites provided.
McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, was in charge of arrangements.
