WINTERVILLE - Glenn Stark Bone, born April 27, 1925, in Ila, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 15, 2012.
He was the son of the late Robert Henry Bone and Pearl Glenn Bone of Ila. He was preceded in death by sisters, Evelyn Bone Allen, Americus, and Lilly Merle Kesler, Athens; and a brother, Robert Franklin Bone, Cornelia.
He served as a Private First Class in Germany during the World War II period. He received the victory medal, occupational medal and one bronze service star before being honorably discharged in July of 1949.
After the war he started Bone Construction Company and was known as one of the top builders in Athens for 45 years. During his time building, he met and married the love of his life, Shirley Sanders Bone in 1964. They have been married for 47 years.
Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, Robert Bone, Winterville; daughter, Glennis Bone Thurmond (Wes), Winterville; and grandchildren, Evan Bone, Dylan Erwin, Brittany Bone, Brianna Bone and Weslynn Thurmond.
He loved his family and friends dearly.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 17, at 3 p.m. at Lord and Stephens East Chapel with the Revs. Phil Wages, Dan Fuller and Ray Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 16, at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospice House or to Winterville First Baptist Church.
