Ebbie Massey Hill was born December 31, 1915, in Commerce, Jackson County. She was the daughter of the late Curt and Hattie Short Massey. She went to be with her God on Wednesday, April 4, 2012. She was a faithful member and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church, Elberton, for 49 years. After moving to Columbia, S.C. to be near her daughter and family, she joined Riverland Hills Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Lamplighters Sunday School class and also "Oasis," which she thoroughly enjoyed.
Ebbie was always there to help anyone for any reason, whether it be sewing, cooking, or just talking. Ebbie was a wonderful mother that was dedicated to her grandchildren and a loving friend. She truly cared about her family and friends in Elberton. She enjoyed many happy days with her friends at Lakeside and enjoyed cooking treats for them.
Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard E. Hill.
Survivors include a daughter, Dana Hill Denny and son-in-law, Phil L. Denny, Columbia, S.C.; son, Tim Hill, Augusta; brother, Norman Curt Massey, Goode, Va.; and two sisters, Everette Massey Milford, Commerce, and Janelle Massey Chandler, Dalton; four granddaughters, April Stokes, Heather Keisler, Ashley Weather, and Blake Leverett; four grandsons-in-law, Tom Stokes, Trey Keisler, Nathan Weathers, and Mike Leverett; two grandsons, Paxton Hill and Andrew Hill; and six great-grandchildren. She was so proud of all of them and would love to speak of them. Her love to her family was totally unconditional.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, at First Baptist Church, Elberton, Georgia. The service will be conducted by her son-in-law, James R. Keisler, III (Trey), with Phil Denny and the Rev. Raymond Scott assisting. Burial will be at Forest Hills Memorial Park following the service. The family will receive friends at 3 p.m. at The Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church.
