Mattie L. Nolen, 98, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Northridge Health and Rehab Facility.
She was born on July 22, 1913 in Eclectic, Ala., the daughter of the late Alex and Jim Hale. She was married to the late Jessie Nolen. She was a member of the St. Paul's First Baptist Church of Jefferson and was a homemaker who raised thirteen children and leaves behind seven. Mrs. Nolen was preceded in death by her children, Joe L. Nolen, Preston Nolen, Johnny L. Nolen, Elaine C. Thompson, Braddock Nolen, and Cynthia Nolen.
Survivors include daughters, Betty Scott (Jim), Commerce, Lorraine Stockley (James), Jonesboro, Shaafeqah Shaheed (Abdul), Jonesboro, Patricia Williams, Redford, Mich., and Derria Lynch (Clifford), Angier, N.C.; sons, James Nolen (Cindy), Burlington, N.C., and Marcellious Nolen, Jonesboro; 50 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 6, at 1 p.m. from St. Paul's First Baptist Church with the Rev. Marvin Simmons officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday night, April 5, from 6 to 8 p.m.
