BISHOP - Carlos Clifton “Cliff” Hamby, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 28, 2012, with his loving family by his side in Bishop.
Born May 7, 1943 in Athens, he was the son of Jewell Lindsay Hamby and the late Carlos C. Hamby Sr. Mr. Hamby attended Athens schools and graduated from Athens High School in 1961 and attended the University of Georgia. He was with Quality Food Machinery for 21 years as a purchasing agent, sales manager, and later as president of the company. He later served Athens and Watkinsville Bonding Company. Mr. Hamby was a member of the Athens Moose Lodge, where he served as governor in the 1980's and 2009. He was also a member of the Elks Club. Mr. Hamby contributed to several charities and sponsored baseball teams and car shows. He was well known and respected by everyone.
Survivors in addition to his mother, include his loving wife of nearly 49 years, Janice Dillard Hamby; daughters, Lisa Hamby Chawla and husband, Mani, and Deana Hamby Collins and husband, Curtis; son, Todd L. Hamby; grandsons, Julian Chawla and Dane Hamby; brother, Ronald O. Hamby; and brother-in-law, Terry Dillard who was with him in his last days giving him comfort and love.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 1, in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
