ATHENS - Julie Kirkindoll passed away Sunday, March 25, 2012, in Athens in the care of her loving family.
She was the daughter of Donna and Mickey Kirkindoll of Jefferson, the sister of David Kirkindoll, and the beloved granddaughter of Juliette Stewart and Shirley Kirkindoll. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, A.W. Stewart, Jr., and Donald R. Kirkindoll.
Julie was a gentle and loving soul, devoted to her family, and her twin loves were music and reading. As a musician, Julie was shaped by her training in the music program of First Baptist Church of Duluth through her directors Janice Gray, Marie Agnew, and Shearer Goode. She was privileged to sing with the Young Singers of Callanwolde for several years, with the highlight every year being singing with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra at "Christmas With Robert Shaw" and at Atlanta Braves baseball games in addition to other memorable concerts. As a teenager, she studied the cello with Andrew Cox, and later with Dr. David Starkweather of the University of Georgia. She played first chair cello with her high school orchestra at Duluth High School, the Metropolitan Youth Symphony in Atlanta, and the Gwinnett Honors Orchestra. She also was an accomplished pianist, studying with her mother.
Julie's reading interests were broad and deep, ranging from classic literature to philosophy to eastern religions to poetry. She possessed a keen intellect and an inquiring mind which led her to enjoy learning about nearly everything. She relished intellectually challenging conversation with likeminded friends.
Survivors include aunts and uncles, Dale and Liz Kirkindoll, Baton Rouge, La., Don and Jackie Kirkindoll, San Antonio, Texas, Joe and Renae Hester, Appling, and Terri Stewart, Auburn; cousins, Jordan Hester, Chad Hester, Andrew Hester, Donald Robert, Kris and Natalie Kirkindoll, Grayson Kirkindoll and Holt Kirkindoll.
Julie's family would like to thank the medical staff of Athens Regional Medical Center for their compassionate and competent care.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 28, at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Jefferson with Bob Ratcliff and Pastor Chris Laskey officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, March 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
