HOMER - Gladys Mae Ayers, 76 passed away Monday, March 12, 2012, at her residence.
Born in Bryson City, N.C. on May 18, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Bonnie Branton Anderson. Mrs. Ayers was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Hayesville, N.C., worked for many years as a store clerk, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed shopping, traveling and reading, but most of all spending time with her family. Mrs. Ayers was preceded in death by a son, David Lee Ayers; sister, Pauline Gobble; and grandson, Rev. Jonathan Ayers.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, David Creed Ayers, Homer; daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and David Trexler and Cathy and Tim Martin, all of Homer; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Anna Ayers, Athens, Jeff and Lisa Ayers, Hendersonville, N.C., and Tim and Lee Ayers, Baldwin; son, Nathaniel Ayers, Decatur, Tenn.; brothers, Charles Anderson, Hayesville, N.C. and Steve Anderson, Webster, N.C.; sisters, JoAnn Eanes, June Conrad and Wanda Kennedy, all of Lexington, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephew; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 15, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Revs. Paul Bryson and Kenneth Kilby officiating. Interment will follow in Banks County Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, at the funeral home.
