JEFFERSON - Retired Col. John W. McKinney, 83, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2012.
Col. McKinney retired from the military after 30 years of service, which included 2 tours in Vietnam and one tour in the Korean War. Col. McKinney was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Welborn McKinney.
Survivors include a son, Steven McKinney, Richmond, Va.; daughter, Cindy Smigelsky, Oakwood; brother, Seab McKinney, Texas; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A private service will be held at Woodbine Cemetery in Jefferson.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 455 Abernathy Road NE, Suite 210, Atlanta, GA 30328, or American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605.
Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, is in charge of arrangements.
