FLOWERY BRANCH - Dr. Tom L. Wages, 75, passed away Monday, February 27, 2012, at home surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.
Dr. Wages was born December 2, 1936, the son of the late Gordon Lee and Mildred Knight Wages of Auburn. He graduated from Emory University Medical College of Georgia and completed his internship and residency in general surgery with the United States Navy. In 1963 Dr. Wages joined the Buford Medical Clinic, where he performed surgery, delivered babies, and made house calls, until his retirement in 2004.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, the Rev. Peggy Wages; daughter, Dr. Tanya Wages-Jefficoat, Augusta; sons, Russell Todd Wages, Cary, N.C., and Thomas Lee Wages, Jr., Atlanta; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Michael David and Emily Warlick, Flowery Branch; grandchildren, John Patrick Jefficoat, Augusta, and Madison and Camille Warlick, Flowery Branch; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; six nephews; and numerous cousins and dear friends.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, March 3, from the Chapel of Memorial Park South Funeral Home with interment following at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens. The Rev. DeDe Leetch will officiate. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 2, at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Candler United Methodist Church, 1960 Candler Rd., Gainesville, GA 30507, or Hospice of Northeast Georgia, 2150 Limestone Pkwy., # 222, Gainesville, GA 30501.
