WINDER – Melford “Butterbean” Phillips, 83, died Thursday, February 23, 2012.
Born in Hoschton, he was the son of the late Frank and Susie Garrett Phillips. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was retired from General Motors. He was a member of the United Auto Workers. Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his wife, Cennie Teal Phillips; sons, Donald and Jeff Phillips; and a great-grandson, Tucker Autry.
Survivors include sons, Darryl (Patricia) Phillips, Winder, a daughter, Carol Warlick, Winder; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Sam Phillips, Jefferson, and Jimmy Phillips, Winder; and sisters, Geneva Shannon and Edith Gaillard, both of Jefferson, and Brenda Lott, Braselton.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 26, from Smith Memory Chapel with the Revs. Joe Shadburn and Kevin Pirkle officiating. Burial was in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
Smith Funeral Home, Winder, was in charge of arrangements.
