HULL - James Crawford Whitsel Jr. died Thursday, February 16, 2012.
He was born May 28, 1934 the son of late James Crawford and Alice Franklin Whitsel in Franklin County Georgia. Mr. Whitsel was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Lee, Edgar, Loy T., Jewell, and Watson; and a sister, Gertrude. He was a longtime active member of Erastus Christian Church. He served in the United States Army having served a tour of duty in Korea, attended the University of Georgia, farmed for many years, and retired from the United States Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service. He was an avid sports fan having played, coached, and umpired softball for many years. He always enjoyed attending activities of his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Nelda Minish Whitsel; daughters, Tracie (Lamar) Sapp, Winterville, Tammie (Robert) Milton, Fishers, Ind., and Jamie (Travis) Williams, Winder; brother, Purcell (Agnes) Whitsel, Macon; sisters, Lois Perry, North Carolina, and Elise Hawkins, Danielsville; grandchildren, Whitney, Taylor Ann, and Andrew Sapp, Jack and Tess Milton, Baley and Brayden Williams; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Erastus Christian Church, Sunday, February 19, conducted by the Revs. Billy Glosson, Steve Parker, and Morris Sapp. Burial was in the church cemetery.
