Alton Claude “Gas Man” Martin, 76, of Lula, died Monday, August 25, 2008, at his residence, following an extended illness.
A lifelong resident of Hall County, he was the son of the late Claude J. and Mamie Lee Stewart Martin. He was retired from the City of Gainesville and was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by a son, Randall C. Martin; sisters, Myrtie Lee Garner, Lacleta Robinson, Geraldine Sailers and Junita Anderson.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Claudine Martin, Lula; son and daughter-in-law, Windsel and Regina Martin, Homer; granddaughter, Natasha Martin; grandson, Nathan Martin, Homer; great-granddaughters, Audrey and Marley Martin, Mt. Airy; sisters, Nora Hayes, Maysville, Lanelle Romines, McDonald, Tenn., Millicent McCabe, Winder, and Martha Garrison, Lula; brothers, Carlton Martin, Duluth, Seaborn Martin, Fairmount and Harold Martin Sugar Valley; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 28, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Revs. Johnny Stone and Howard Collins officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 26,from 6 to 9 p.m., and Wednesday, August 27 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
