Herman “Brown” Thompson, 88, of Carlton, died Saturday, August 23, 2008, at his residence.
Born in Elbert County, he was the son of the late Dr. Dallas Thompson and Florence Brown Thompson. He was retired as a Captain in the United States Air Force, where he received the Purple Heart and served as chaplain of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Brown Thompson. He had an avid affection for horses.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Norma Thompson, Carlton; son and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Phyllis Thompson, Orlando, Fla., Joe and Becky Thompson, Gainesville, Tom and Jane Bentley, Philadelphia, Miss.; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ron Singerman, Warner, N.H.; grandchildren, Tish Young, Austin, Texas, Mark Thompson, Orlando, Fla., Chuck Thompson, Jasper, Traci Chadwick, Buford, Ronald Bentley, Charlottesville, Va., Mary Anderson, Comer; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, August 28, at 3 p.m., in Carlton Baptist Church with Rev. Dwight Duhon officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
