BALDWIN - Fanneal Simmons Mathis, 83, died Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at the Oaks at Scenic View.
She was born on March 17, 1928, and was a native and lifelong resident of Banks County. Mrs. Mathis was the daughter of the late Cleve and Martha Broome Simmons. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Mathis; and brothers, Branson Simmons and Grover Simmons.
Survivors include her sister, Mozelle Simmons, Hollingsworth; son and daughter-in-law, Darryl and Lynn Mathis, Athens; four grandchildren, Beth Anne Mathis, Maria Mathis, Mallory Mathis, and Melany Mathis; sister-in-law, Novella Simmons; and several nieces and nephews.
The service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 9, at Harmony Baptist Church with the Revs. Mark Vandiver, Edward Bolen and Darryl Mathis officiating. Mrs. Mathis will lie in state at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, from Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin.
The family requests that contributions be made to the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 5223 Old Hwy. 441 N, Baldwin, GA 30511.
Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, is in charge of arrangements.
