ILA - Grady “Albert” Vaughn, 70, died Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Piedmont Hospital.
Born in Madison County on August 19, 1941, he was a son of the late Herbert Lee and Nellie Mae Vaughn. He served in the Postal Unit of the Army Reserves for six years. At Mercer Extension, he began a lifelong study and love of the Bible. He later attended Toccoa Falls College and was ordained as a minister on February 15, 1976. He served as pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Stephens, Ga. and Providence Baptist Church in Pocataligo, Ga. He had a genuine love for his congregation and the surrounding community. He considered serving others as the highest honor and privilege of his life.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Billie Clarke Vaughn, Ila; daughter and son-in-law, Lorie and Jerry Skelton, Ila; granddaughters, Heather, Merry, Abigail and Lydia Skelton, Ila; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Peggy Vaughn, Commerce; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 30, at 3 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church with the Revs. John Griffeth, Robby Brown, Lex Bowen and Dayton Logan officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Providence Baptist Church and fellow pastors in this area.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 29, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
