George Dorris Childs, 87, of Jefferson, died Wednesday, August 20, 2008.
Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Leroy and Kittie Watson Childs. He was a retired correctional officer, an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Tyrus Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Reba Bowles Childs, Jefferson; daughters, Pat C. Smith, Ila, and Estelle Wells, Jefferson; sons, Johnny Childs and Jack Childs, both of Jefferson; seven grandsons; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 23, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Revs. Matt Calvert and Palmer Pace officiating. Burial will be in the Woodbine Cemetery in Jefferson. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Norris, Otis Childs, Gerald Maddox, Jerry Adams, Danny Waldrop and Stan Evans. The family will receive friends Friday, August 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
