Freddie Alma Short Wood, 96, of Commerce, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
She was born on September 20,1911, in Jackson County, the daughter of the late Thomas Coy and Hettie Moss Short. She was the oldest female member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where she had been a member since joining at age 11. She was a retired Seamstress from Commerce Sportswear and Oxford. Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Brown Wood; and a sister, Ada Fay Webb.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Barbara and Raymond Adams, Chamblee, and Marie and Wendell Perry, Gainesville, Carolyn Hayes, Sautee-Nacoochee; sister, Jane Short Irvin, Gillsville; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 20, at Little-Ward Funeral Home with the Revs. Derry Oliver and Henry Webb officiating. Burial was in the Jackson Memorial Gardens.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.
