BLAIRSVILLE - Hazel Griffeth Massey, 99, died Monday, November 21, 2011, in Blairsville, where she had been living for the past 13 years.
Hazel was born to William and Icie Griffeth on May 4, 1912 in Madison County. She married Seaborn Otha Massey, Jr. in 1936 and had one son, Rolyn Stanley Massey in 1937.
She lived in the Madison County/Athens area most of her life and moved to Atlanta to live with her son and daughter-in-law, Barry Gober Massey when she retired in 1970.
Survivors include a son, Rolyn, his wife, Barry; two grandchildren, Susan Massey Patrick and Jeremy Massey; one great-grandchild, Rachel Justis; and three step-grandchildren, Justin, Amber, and April Patrick.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 30, at 2 p.m. at Gordon's Chapel Church Cemetery in the Sanford Community, Madison County.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor of Ashleigh Godfry, Hazel’s great-niece.
Lord & Stephens, Danielsville, is in charge of arrangements.
