HULL - Gladys Hooper Burroughs, 97, wife of the late Charles Thomas Burroughs, died Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at her residence.
A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Judge Ervin and Mattie Hendrick Hooper. She was the oldest member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she was very active for many years. She was also a member of the Neese Women’s Club and the Over Fifty Club.
Survivors include her daughters and their spouses: Kay and Mickey Campbell, Athens, Peggy and Stanley Terrell, Colbert and Debbie and Mike Ellerson, Athens; grandchildren, Sharon Strickland, Matthew Adams, Jamie Simmons, Paul Terrell and Steven Terrell; and five great-grandchildren.
The family would like to especially thank her caregivers: Sharon Strickland, Betty Bowles, Donna Dorsey and Candi Morris.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 2 p.m., at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jonathan Tolbert officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, November 18 the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Music Fund.
