John Whitmire (11-5-11)

COMMERCE - John Floyd Whitmire, 97, formerly of the Holly Springs Community, died Saturday, November 5, 2011.

Born in Maysville, he was the son of the late Leander Fitzsailand Whitmire and Ola Clarinda Catlett Whitmire. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving as a Sergeant in World War II, was in restaurant management, and was a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Whitmire was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Inez Horton Whitmire; brothers and sisters, Maude, Ethel, Carl, Otis, Mildred, Hugh Lee, Paul, Nell, Jack, Laura, Bruce, Robert and Mary.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 8, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Chad Rising and Mr. Don Lord officiating. The burial will follow in the Jackson Memorial Park with John Whitmire, Jeff Whitmire, Wendell Whitmire, Rob Edwards, Shane Whitmire, Nicholas Whitmire and Billy Whitmire honored as pallbearers. The visitation will be held on Monday evening, November 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
