WINDER – Laura Hammond Williams, 80, died Thursday, October 27, 2011.
Born in Winder, she was the daughter of the late Columbus and Lenora Greeson Hammond. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church for 68 years and served as the first woman elder of this church. She was devoted to her family, friends and church. She graduated from Statham High School. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Broadus “Briscoe” Williams.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Judith W. Hettinger, Cordova, Tenn., and Deborah W. and Nelson L. Ruiz, Atlanta; grandchildren, Reid Hettinger, Laura Hettinger and Briscoe Ruiz; two brothers and a sister, Gene Hammond, Forest Park, Jack Hammond, Tyrone, and Hammond Wenzer, Peachtree City; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 31, from the Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jennifer Horton officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Smith Funeral Home, Winder, was in charge of arrangements.
