ATHENS - Elizabeth "Lizzie" B. Conley, 87, died Saturday morning, October 8, 2011 following a brief illness.
She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Nora Brown of Commerce.
Liz was first and foremost a caregiver. Countless people, "dignitary and ordinary" came to her house or she visited theirs to care for their feet. She interspersed her care with a joke, a little gossip, and stories of her children and grandchildren. She had a genuine love for the people she served and a strong witness and love for her Savior Jesus Christ. Grandbabies always came from Maw Maws house smelling sweet after having been bathed, lotioned, and powdered. No one ever left from Liz's house hungry - there was always a tenderloin biscuit or piece of chocolate pound cake to be had. Up until her death, she continued to display both determination and good humor. She will be missed greatly.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, George Thomas Conley; sons, George William Conley and wife Janet, and David Conley and wife Sharon; five grandchildren, Karen Rowland, Leslie Daniels, Charlie Conley, Hillary Conley and J.D. Conley; and one great-grandchild, Abie Rowland, all of Athens; and a brother, Tom Brown, Commerce.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 10, at 2:30 p.m. at Lord & Stephens Chapel, EAST, with the Rev. Charles Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Athens Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mars Hill Baptist Church, 2661 Mars Hill Rd., Watkinsville, GA, where she was a member of the Spirit Sunday School Class.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, EAST, Athens, is in charge of arrangements.
