‘Jurelle’ Smelley (10-7-11)

LULA - Mary “Jurelle” Meeks Smelley, 94, died Friday, October 07, 2011 at Northridge Medical Center.

Born in Banks County on January 02, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Mel and Mae Pritchett Meeks. She was preceded in death by sisters, Irene Morris and Mildred Sims; and a granddaughter, Torrey Smelley.

Mrs. Smelley was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Lula, where she sang in the choir and was a Sunday school member. She was also a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, gardening, farm work, and going to church.

Survivors include husband, Hugh Smelley, Lula; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Joyce Smelley, Lula; granddaughter and husband, Shanda and Justin Lott, Lula; brother and sister-in-law, Ferd and Betty Meeks, Lula.

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 9, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Lula with the Revs. James Duncan, Phil Parks and Ralph Smith officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery.
