Helen McDuffie (10-3-11)

BALDWIN - Helen Myers McDuffie, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 3, 2011, at the Oaks at Scenic View Nursing Home following an extended illness.

She was born on September 4, 1919, in Cherokee, N.C. and was the daughter of the late Albert and Leasie Hogsed Myers. Mrs. McDuffie was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Franklin McDuffie; children, Howard McDuffie and Louise Parker; brothers, Amos Myers and Jack Myers; sisters, Margie Roberts, Nora Coley, Molly Moody, Maggie Jones, and Nellie Myers; and an infant sister, Mary Myers. Mrs. McDuffie was of the Baptist denomination, a homemaker, and enjoyed crafting. She spent many years with her sisters, “The Myers Sisters”, playing Gospel and Bluegrass Music all over the southeast winning various awards for their talents in singing and song writing.

Survivors include her daughters, Bertie Chaffin, Baldwin, and Leasie M. Whitmire, Mt. Airy; daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and J.R. Reems, Baldwin, and Patsy and Virgil Alexander, Toccoa; son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie and Lucille McDuffie, Cleveland; brother and sister-in-law, John H. Myers, Sr. and Izora Myers, Alto; 16 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, in Baldwin, with the Revs. Luther Williams, Austin Kelley and William Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Baldwin City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia.
