GILLSVILLE - Myrtle Ward Hewell, 96, died Monday, October 3, 2011 following an extended illness.
She was born January 29, 1915 in Maysville, the daughter of late Hulon G. and Etta Griffin Ward. She was employed with Harmony Grove Mill in Commerce for 25 years and volunteered at BJC Hospital for a number of years. She was a member of Gillsville Baptist Church for over 75 years, where she taught Sunday School for more than 50 of those years. Mrs. Hewell was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis H. Hewell; daughters and son-in-law, Betty Jo and Grover Whitlock and Barbara Sue Cape; granddaughter, Melissa Cape; grandson, Robby Hewell; and her great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Beth Hewell.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Shirlene Hewell; son-in-law and wife, Charles and Lois Cape; grandsons, Scott Whitlock and Mike Cape; grandsons and wives, Kevin and Michelle Cape and Kyle and Brandi Hewell; great-grandchildren, Katrina Cape, Katie Beth Cape, Seth Cape, Trent Cape, Kayden Hewell, Kylen Hewell, Kynsleigh Hewell and Kolston Hewell; great-great-grandchildren, Cameron Poe and Hoke Poe.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, October 6, at 2 p.m. at Gillsville Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The Revs. Bill Calhoun and Frank Sailers will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
