BALDWIN - Hazel Lewallen Smith, 83, died Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born on September 28, 1927, in Banks County, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Bertie Creasmon Lewallen. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. “Bill” Smith; and daughter, Ellen Lewallen. Mrs. Smith was formerly employed with Carwood Manufacturing Company for a number of years and was also a poultry farmer with Fieldale Farms for a number of years. She was a member of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Edward Kelley, Baldwin; sons, Don Smith, Turnerville, and Harry Smith, Baldwin; brother and sister-in-law, John A. and Myrtle Lewallen, Baldwin; brother, Roddy Watkins, Iva, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Revs. Terrell Simmons and Paul Bryson officiating. Interment will follow in Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
