COMMERCE - Jimmy Cheek, 79, died Sunday, September 4, 2011 at his residence after battling a long illness.
He was born in Banks County, the son of the late, Ernest and Mamie Garrison Cheek. He was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church, was a United States Navy Veteran, and was retired from Yellow Freight Company as a dispatcher. Mr. Cheek was preceded in death by sisters, Ann Clark and Winnie Massey; brother, George Cheek; and two special sisters-in-law, Helen McGinnis Cochran and Hazel McGinnis Beck.
Survivors include his wife, Malisse McGinnis Cheek, Commerce; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Mike Lawson, Roswell, and Lisa and Jim Alexander, Roswell; sons and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kathy Cheek, Acworth, and Gregg Cheek, Lake Martin, Ala.; grandchildren, Patrick and Ashley Cheek, Krista Cheek, Lacey Cheek, Dylan Cheek, Travis and Carly Herrmann, Melissa Herrmann, and Eric Herrmann; great-grandson, Teddy Herrmann; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 7, at 11 a.m. from Ridgeway Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Manus officiating. Burial will be in the Bethany Christian Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday night, September 7, at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.
