Nicholas Wilbanks (8-28-11)

COMMERCE - Nicholas Daniel Wilbanks, 18, died Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Athens Regional Medical Center.

He was born April 14, 1993 in Jackson County, Ga., the son of Rodney Lester Wilbanks (Brandy) of Commerce and Leslie Jay Thomason of Nicholson. Nicholas was a member of Baptist Tabernacle and was a rancher. Nicholas was the best calf roper, bull rider, and motocross rider around Jackson County. His loving spirit will always be remembered. He was one of a kind and will always be in our hearts.

Survivors in addition to his parents include brothers, Kevin and Kaleb Wilbanks, both of Commerce; sister, Courtney O’Bannon, Douglasville; grandparents, Bobby and Sandra Wilbanks and Janet Howard, all of Commerce; aunts, Christi Shepherd, Macon, and Angela Wilbanks, Mexico; great-uncle, Spurgeon Youngblood, Macon; great-aunts, Patricia (Grier) Dawson and Nancy Lee Wilbanks, both of Athens; niece, Ollieanna O’Bannon, Douglasville; and cousins, Brandon and Austin Shepherd, both of Macon, and Chloe Wilbanks, Commerce.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, September 2, at Baptist Tabernacle with the Revs. Rodney Wilbanks and Tommy Watson officiating. Interment will follow in Cabin Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday night, September 1, from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be made to the Nicholas Wilbanks Fund at Community Bank and Trust.

Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, is in charge of arrangements.

A small blond haired, blue eyed, young boy walked into my class as a 6th grader and soon took up residence in my heart. He didn’t like to read but he loved to ride dirt-bikes so I began to print off stories about a top-notch biker and he devoured them. From that moment, a friendship and trust developed that continued to grow as I watched him grow. Those sparkling blue eyes, sunny smile, and enduring personality made many a day for me. Nick was a faithful and loyal friend to many and will be missed by those who knew and loved him. My heart is simply broken to know that you are not in this world and I will never get to feel the warmth of your smile again. Love and Miss you, Ms. Golden.

I loved to listen to Nicholas talk. His Southern accent was a real charm just like his beautiful blue eyes. Selfishly we will miss him being here with us, but his true happiness is in Heaven. He was greeted by so many wonderful angels that have passed on before him. May God be continue his blessings and be comforting to all of us during this time of grief and saddness.

i remember riding my mom's bus with nicholas, we would always cut-up and joke around about everything you could possibly think of. The conversations & jokes i still remember as if it were just yesterday we were talking. As he would always walk to the front of the bus to get off at his stop, he would always charm us all with his little smile and sparkling blue eyes, & like he would usually do in his daily routine, always tell mama bye... everyday it was something new we would recognize about him. but there is always one that that was for sure when he rode that bus, no one would back talk mrs jamey he said... that was his buddy... & he would always stand up in her defense... the jokes, the conversations & the laughter we shared will never be forgotten. its still hard to believe this is real, but just remember that all of his pain, suffering, or whatever he faced on earth has all been washed away, and happiness has taken over. r.i.p. nick, you will be missed....

Nick and his brother Kevin was the best of friends with my son Dillon. I cannot say I always approved of their behavior, but they were still 3 peas in a pod. I pray God will wrap his arms around this family and help them through their time of terrible loss. God be with you one and all!

Nicholas, I am going to miss you. All the times your dad would let you out at EJES when I was doing bus duty and he would stay with me back there. A day did not go by that he did not give me a hug. I will miss you.

Nick, I knew you as the southern boy in my first period class who never took anything from anyone! I loved the way that you had such great respect for wemen in our class! Freshman year you and micheal Nalley got into it beacuse he was being disrespectfull. I laughed so hard when you both left and Mrs. Barnett was talking about it! I loved seeing you come into class every morning because you always had a smile on your face. You will never be forgotten as that pretty souther boy! We love you miss you Nick, but so did GOD! He needed you smiles to meke his day just like we did. Your in good hangs and so is your family! REST IN PEACE because there is no hurt in heaven!
