HOMER - Edith Grace Banks, 89, died on Monday, August, 29, 2011, at the Athens Regional Medical Center.
Miss Banks was born on September 3, 1921, in Franklin County. She was the daughter of the late William Jackson and Maude Elizabeth Means Banks. Miss Banks was also preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. She was the last member of her immediate family. She was a graduate of Piedmont College where she received a basketball scholarship. Miss Banks taught school for a number of years. She was also employed with the Tilton Equipment Company, where she retired after ten years of service. Miss Banks was a member of the Homer United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her special nephew, Kent R. Payne, Toccoa; close friend, Loretta Barnes, Commerce; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 4 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Rev. James McLendon officiating. Interment will follow in Banks County Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the funeral hour on Wednesday, at the funeral home.
