ROYSTON – Sidney Doyle Chambers, 88, died Thursday, August 18, 2011, at the Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.
Born in Franklin County on October 5, 1922, he was the son of the late B.L. and Louvennie Fowler Chambers. He was retired from Johnson & Johnson and attended the New Bethel Congregational Holiness Church. He was a United States Army Veteran having landed in Normandy and fought in the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest, the Battle of the Bulge, and served in a total of five major battles. He was a member of the Harrison McCreary V.F.W. Post # 4828. Mr. Chambers was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Ruth Parham Chambers.
Survivors include a brother, James Chambers, Comer; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, August 21, at 2 p.m., from the Rose Hill Cemetery in Royston with Charles Stephens officiating. The body is at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Saturday, August 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. The family is at their respective homes.
