AUBURN - Gladys M. Dickerson Gentry, 89, peacefully passed away at her residence under hospice care on Wednesday, August 17, 2011.
She was preceded in death by parents, Edgar J. and Daisy Strome Moyer; first husband, Meredith W. Dickerson; second husband, Euell B. Gentry; and sister, Vivian Harlan Kelly.
In her earlier years she worked on Air Force bases, starting out as a clerk and working up to Base Commander’s secretary. Later she was a much loved substitute teacher at Winder–Barrow High School. Gladys made friends easily and loved everyone she met. Her generous spirit and happy chuckle will be missed by all.
Survivors include a son, Edgar W. (Barbara) Dickerson, Auburn; she was Mamaw to three grandchildren, Michael W. Dickerson, Valley, Ala., Penelope D. (Lee) Tench, Statham, and Hollie F. (Roman) Carson, West Hollywood, Calif.; and brother Edgar M. (Doris) Moyers, Fishers, Ind.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 21, at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenny Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will begin receiving friends Sunday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
