WINDER – Jessie J. Garrett Sr., 88, died Monday, August 8, 2011.
Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Dewey and Bertie C. Garrett. He was a member of Union Baptist Church, was a veteran having served in the United States Army during World War II, and was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and the VFW. Mr. Garrett was preceded in death by brothers, Harold and Jimmy Garrett.
Survivors include his wife, Dot Wall Garrett, Winder; son, Jessie (Sonny) J. Garrett Jr. and wife, Debbie, Winder; daughter, Diane (Tina) Parks and husband, Billy, Auburn; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Duane Garrett, Bob Garrett and Bill Garrett, all of Winder, and Donald Garrett, St. Louis; and sisters, Colleen Winkler, Cleveland, and Carolyn Crane, Jefferson.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 11, at 2 p.m. from Smith Memory Chapel. Burial will be in the Barrow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, August 10, from 6 to 9 p.m.
