MAYSVILLE - Luther Edward "Pop" Powell, 76, was a man of character, strength, integrity, love, and humility. After a long battle with sickness and infirmity, Mr. Powell had a safe crossing and went home to be with the His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, August 5, 2011.
Born in Banks County he was the son of the late Luther and Jimmie Powell. Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Harper Powell; and brother, Bill Powell.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law; Patty and Jimi Miller, Locust Grove; son, Donald Powell, Villa Rica; step-children; Scott Harper, Maysville, and Lori Wurtz, Commerce; five grandchildren, Rodney, Seth, and Michael Oliver, Dalton Powell and Paige Sandberg; four step-grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Miller, Terre Garrish, and Jeremy Wilson; and sister; Ethel Powell, Commerce.
Funeral service will be Sunday, August 7, at 2 p.m. from Solid Rock Baptist Church with the Revs. Swayne Carlan and Seth Oliver officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, August 6, from 6 to 9 p.m.
