Odis L. Payne, 86, of Winder, died Friday, August 15, 2008.
He had lived in Barrow County for most of his life and was the son of the late Lee and Irene Austin Payne. He was a retired superintendent of the former Jug Tavern Golf Course and was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre of operations. Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Louise “Lucy” Rooks Payne in 2003.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Tilda and Sidney Wall; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Sabra Payne; grandchildren and spouses, Jason and Lori Wall, Seth and Sumer Payne, Zack Payne and Logan Payne, all of Winder, Justin Wall, Savannah, Katie and Stephen Wallace, Acworth; great-grandchildren, Spence Payne, Sutton Payne, Ivey Wall, Hunter Jackson, Simone Wallace, Tanner Wallace and Tate Wallace; sister and brother-in-law, Dotti and Enoch Smith, Winder.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 17, at 2:30 p.m., in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Morris officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 16, at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m.
