BALDWIN - Alfred "Jack" Dempsey Durham, 84, died on Friday, July 15, 2011, following complications of surgery.
Born in Homer, on June 25, 1927, he was the son of the late William Fletcher and Merle Ayers Durham. Mr. Dempsey was preceded in death by one brother Clinton Durham. He was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church and was a United States Army Veteran of World War II.╩ He retired from management with Georgia Pacific.
Survivors include wife, Selina Emmon Davis Durham, Baldwin; daughter and son-in-law, Sonia Lynn and Robert William Newman II, Lilburn; son, Dale Kent Durham, Baldwin; sisters, Evelyn Mitchell, Royston, Celeste Wilson, Thomasville, Willene Osborn, Homer, Majell Hallford, Clarkesville, and Joyce Barrett, Griffin; brothers, Dwight Durham, Carrollton, JD Durham, Mt. Airy, Maxwell Durham, Clarkesville; two grandchildren, Robert William Newman III, and Carrie Christine Newman.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 17, at Level Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Brian James and Terry Rice officiating. Interment was in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, was in charge of arrangements.
