Betty Sue Benson (7-16-11)

COMMERCE - Betty Sue Gillespie Benson, 83, formerly of Buford, died Saturday, July 16, 2011.

She was a native of Gainesville and a lifelong resident of metro Atlanta. She was a homemaker and a member of Friendship Baptist Church, in Buford. Mrs. Benson was preceded in death by her husband, Byron James Benson; a daughter, Margaret Ann Tingle; grandsons, Eddie Gooch and Brian Gooch; brother, Hoyt Gillespie; and sister, Mildred Buice Lee.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Davenport, Fayetteville; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Pat Duran, Commerce; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Ann Benson, Hoschton; grandchildren, Ricky Gooch, David Mengel, Jimmy Mengel, Susan Canavan, Deborah Carthern, Troy Duran, Roy Duran, Chris Duran, Ashley Duran, James Benson, Bobby Benson, Randy Benson and Scott Benson; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, James and Cenie Gillespie, Stockbridge; and sister and brother-in-law, Wannafaye and Lawton Cain, Tampa, Fla.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 19, at 3 p.m. at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Randy Strickland and Pat Duran officiating. Burial will be at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday, July 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Family Memorial Fund, C/O Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel.
