HARTWELL - Ruby Nell Brown Barger, 86, of 747 Liberty Hill Church Road, Hartwell, died Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Peachtree Village, Commerce, GA.
“Miss” Ruby was a devoted mother and grandmother. She lived a model Christian life and spread her love to all of those around her. She found beauty in everything. Even in her garden, weeds became wildflowers under her loving care. She said that when she was surrounded by things she loved, she was surrounded by beauty and that’s how we will always remember her…beautiful. She will be greatly missed.
Born on January 30, 1925 in Hartwell, she was the daughter of the late Byrd Clifford and Edna Irene Gunter Brown. She was a retired Brown Transport bookkeeper and a Certified Sitter. Mrs. Barger was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday school teacher for 62 years, including over 30 years of perfect attendance at the Hartwell Healthcare Center Sunday School Class. She was also a past Matron of the Nancy Hart Chapter 398 Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Barger was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Barger, Sr.; one son, Charles R. “Charlie Boy” Barger, Jr.; two brothers, William Cranfill Brown and R.L. Brown; two sisters, Anne B. Holt and Barbara B. Dickson; and three grandchildren, Scott Barger, Rodney Hunter, and Michelle Martinez.
Survivors include one son, Mike Barger and his wife, Karen, Danielsville; one daughter, Marsha Ann Reece, Mountain Rest, S.C.; one daughter-in-law, Velma Holden Barger, Shelby, N.C.; three sisters, Ophelia B. Peek, Atlanta, Daisy B. Vickery and Virginia B. Majeski, both of Hartwell; eight grandchildren, Shane Barger, Steffanie Barger, Brandi Barger, Tina Brown, Shanna Parrington, Leah Barger, Jonathan Smith, Jasmine Dockery; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 16, at 3 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry Meeks and Joe Slocum officiating. Burial will be in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery. Gentlemen serving as pall bearers will be Jonathan Smith, Shane Barger, Johnny Brown, Jim Dickson, Jeff Hilley, and Mike Barger. Serving as honorary escort will be the Caregivers of Peachtree Village, the Hartwell Health Care Center Sunday School Class, and members of the Order of the Eastern Star.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m.
Saturday prior to the service. The family is at their respective homes.
