HULL - Loy T. Whitsel, 89, husband of the late Jessie Merle Whitsel, died Wednesday, July 06, 2011 at his residence.
A native of Franklin County, he was the son of the late J.C. Whitsel, Sr. and Alice Franklin Whitsel. Serving in the United States Army during World War II, he was stationed in England and France. Upon returning from the war, Loy settled in Madison County where he purchased a farm. He worked for Chicopee Mills for 25 years and was a member of the Bold Springs United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Curtis J. and Amanda Whitsel, Hull; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Bill Gregg, Danielsville; brothers, Purcell Whitsel, Macon, Crawford Whitsel, Jr., Hull; sisters, Lois Perry, Kannapolis, N.C., Elise Hawkins, Danielsville; and a granddaughter, Rachel Whitsel.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 8, at 11 a.m. at Rogers Baptist Church with the Rev. Carlton Peters officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at the funeral home.
