CUMMING - Larry E. Winkler, 64, died Monday, June 27, 2011.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and a Sergeant with the DeKalb County Police Department retiring after 30 years of service. Larry was very close to his grandchildren who called him “Poppy.” He is preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth Winkler; parents Mr. and Mrs. Joe Winkler, Sr.; and his, brother, Joe Winkler, Jr.
Survivors include wife, Ann Winkler, Cumming; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Perry Pennington, Canton; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Tom Poole, Alto; grandchildren, Isabelle and Reagan Pennington; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 2, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Cumming with the Rev. Terry Kilgore officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 1, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in care of the family to a trust fund for his two grandchildren, Isabelle and Reagan Pennington.
Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory, Cumming, is in charge of arrangements.
