Vera Timms

Vera Elizabeth Fitzpatrick Timms, 80, of Clermont, died Sunday, August 10, 2008, at her residence, following a sudden illness.

She was born on August 14, 1927, in Madison County, the daughter of E.O. and Bonnie White Fitzpatrick. Prior to moving to Clermont in 2001, she lived and worked in Gwinnett County, where she retired after 30 years of teaching with the Gwinnett County School System. She was a 1949 graduate of the University of Georgia, where she earned her degree in home economics. She was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Sorority and was a lifetime member of the Georgia Association of Educators, as well as the National Education Association.

She was a member of the Metter Baptist Church and her favorite past times were collecting coins, dolls and antique games, but her real passion was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a spirited supporter of the Georgia Bulldogs and was known for her sweet potato pies.

Mrs. Timms was preceded in death by brothers, J.D. Fitzpatrick, Ellis Fitzpatrick, Obidiah Fitzpatrick and Wilson Fitzpatrick; sisters, Jeffie Fitzpatrick, Robbie Burnett, Mary Dobbs and Cora Bonnie Fitzpatrick.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, J.N. “Neal” Timms Sr., Clermont; sons and daughter-in-law, J.N. “Joe” Timms Jr., Norcross, and Pat and Melinda Timms, Dallas; daughters and son-in-law, Pam Timms, Fort Collins, Colo., Jane and Scott Cleveland, Cleveland; sisters, Chester Wylder, Stockbridge, and Martha Davis, Greenville, S.C.; brothers, Horace Fitzpatrick, Cleveland, and Clyde Fitzpatrick, Danielsville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 13, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Ila Cemetery in Danielsville. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
