COMMERCE – Charles L. “Charlie” Whitmire, 82, died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at his residence following a period of declining health.
Born February 7, 1929, in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Paul and Katherine McDougal Whitmire. A veteran of the United States Navy, he was retired from Western Electric as an installer. Mr. Whitmire was preceded in death by his sisters, Bobbi Watts, Pat Carter, Peggy Tolbert and Mildred Youmans; brothers, Lewis Whitmire, Simon Whitmire and Jim Whitmire.
Survivors include his wife, Carol P. Whitmire, Commerce; sons and daughters-in-law, John P. and Lisa Whitmire, Commerce and Jeffrey and Sylvia Whitmire, Jefferson; granddaughter, Blakeley Whitmire; step-grandchildren, Bryson and Kate Quinn; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Beth Whitmire, Shady Dale; sister, Joan Whitmire, Maysville; brother, Bill Whitmire, Maysville; uncle, John F. Whitmire, Jefferson and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 14, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home. Interment will be at Jackson Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 13, at the funeral home.
