GREENSBORO, N.C. – Robert Eugene Kellum, 81, died Thursday, May 26, 2011, at his residence.
He was the son of the late Ira and Mozell Childs Kellum of Commerce.
During his lifetime he soloed a Piper J-3 Cub at age 19, served in the United States Army during the Korean War, attended Guilford College, built a sailboat and Ultralight Airplane, enjoyed flying with his sons and practiced Genealogy in his later years.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty Hemphill Kellum; a son, Jeff (Soozi) and her children, Quinn and Patrick; daughter, Dawn Kellum; son, Scott (Jolanta) and their children Matt and Kate; son, Mark (Sandy) and their children, Chad and Ryan; and sister, Iree Fuller, Nevada.
A family burial was held Saturday, May 28, at the Muirs Chapel Cemetery in Greensboro, N.C. Memorial services were held Wednesday, June 1, at the Muirs Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was a member.
