ATHENS - Clifford William Hill, 83, peacefully entered heaven on Friday, June 3, 2011.
Born on July 14, 1927, in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Esco and Emma Bell Hill. He was a dedicated Christian whose life centered on service to his church, family and work. He was a Korean War Army veteran stationed in Japan. His work included cultivating a family farm and 45 years of employment at Alexander Wood Products. He was a faithful member of Attica Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 40 years. He was engaged in many community activities including being an active member of the Jackson County Farm Bureau. Mr. Hill was preceded in death by sisters, Clara Belle Wages and Reba Jo Hill.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 61 years, Mary Irene Archer Hill; loving daughter, Mary Louise Hill, Athens; two sisters, Anne Logan, Athens, and Martha Copeland, Clarkesville; three nieces; two nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 5, at Attica Baptist Church with the Revs. Edward Bolen, Darryl Mathis and Kevin Purcell officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Gurnie Bell, Bryan Card, Terry Fulcher, Nolan Gottlieb, Tyler Gottlieb and Jim Patton. Honorary pallbearers were the deacon board of Attica Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Attica Baptist Church, Building Fund.
Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, was in charge of arrangements.
