NICHOLSON - God called James E. Hicks, 71, home on Tuesday, May 24, 2011.
Born in Jackson County on October 23, 1939, he was the son of Irene Hicks of Monroe and the late Bill Hicks. He moved to Nicholson about 26 years ago. Mr. Hicks is preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Hicks; and brother, Gene Hicks. He was retired from the City of Monroe and was a prior deacon of the Congregational Holiness Church of Monroe. He lived life for God, family, and friends. He never met a stranger and was known for his big heart and fun loving humor. He enjoyed gospel music, working in his garden, and waving to his neighbors from his front porch. Nicholson is a little dimmer without his smiling face.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife of 53 years, Nora Ann Hicks, Nicholson; daughters and sons, Annette and Telo Kilby, Atlanta, Jamie and Connie Hicks, Monroe, and Tim and Kathy Hicks, Nicholson; grandchildren, James and Christy Spurgeon, Texas, Mandy and Tyrone Sloan and Amy Hicks, all of Monroe, Beth and Jesse Hicks and Sam Pardon, all of Nicholson; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Sandi and Sandra Hicks, Loganville, Pat and Doug
McDaniel, Winder, George and Diane Hicks, Gratis, and Roger and Nancy Hicks, Monroe; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 27 at 2 p.m. from the Nicholson Baptist Church with the Revs. Janie Autry and Lanier Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Nicholson Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, May 26, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
